Traveling with Toddlers - My Observations of Kids on Planes

Traveling as adults is stressful enough. But traveling with kids is a different beast.

The planning. The packing. How does a tiny little human require so much stuff? And, of course, the changing of routines, food options, and sleep.

The first time I took my kids on a plane they were seven and nine. We were heading to Disney to celebrate their 8th and 10th birthdays so they were excited, curious, and able to keep it together in a way that infants and toddlers simply can’t.

But now, part of my job as the founder of Core4Parenting is to travel across the country as a consultant, speak and teaching professional development workshops to Early Childhood Educators. And so, I’ve had the opportunity to observe many parents flying with kids 3 and under and honestly, I’m fascinated by what I’ve seen.

Conscious parents focus and present on their little one’s experience and allow their toddlers to toddle, literally, on planes now. Seriously, the cute factor of the 18 month old wobbling up and down the aisle was enough entertainment for me!

They also speak differently to their kids when they start to whine, cry, or kick while confined to a lap or small seat.
