Tired of Hearing "I'm Bored"?
Honestly, I say those words sometimes too.
Nope - not the swear words. 🤣I'm not a cusser but be sure to listen to this short podcast episode to hear what I DO say!
I'll hear myself take a *long, deep sigh* and say, outloud, 🗣️"I'm so bored".
But the truth is, I'm feeling a lot of things in that moment, but boredom isn't one of them.
I might be:
- overwhelmed
- anxious
- frustrated
- worried
or any other number of uncomfortable emotions.
But, let's be real, it's much easier to say we are bored and then zone out scrolling funny Instagram videos for the next 10 minutes, than say how we really feel.
For me, boredom happens for one of three reasons:
1. I'm not feeling challenged by my work.
2. I've bitten off more than I can chew and experiencing self-doubt that I can't do a task.
3. I don't feel like I'm making enough of an impact.
Do you see the common thread here?
Boredom isn't about having nothing to do.
It's about struggling to identify and to process your emotions inside the thing you are ALREADY doing!
The same is true for your tiniest humans.
They say, "I'm bored."
You get triggered and think you need to fill their time for them.
They create a neural pathway that says, "When I think I'm bored I should fill my time."
