Marriage and Motherhood
Motherhood isn’t your identity. Neither is being a wife. They are relationships. And before them, there was you.
You worked hard for years to grow into who you are, to own your sense of self, and step into confidence, clarity, and create a vision for who you wanted to be in this world.
Your journey of self evolution led you to your true identity.
And then, you chose to enter into the relationship of partner and mother, when you felt strong enough and ready to add layers to your identity.
Relationships are souls coming together to create something new.
And it’s because of this that they often trick us into thinking that our new label is our new identity, and this slippery slope can quickly, easily and invisibly strip us of -self.
I’ve been thinking this lately, as I’m officially an empty nester. It is a whole new world without my children around
to focus on
to engage with
to support
to inspire
to negotiate with
to empower
We spent 20 years preparing them for independence, to be ready to thrive in real the world.
And now they are in it.
Without them around. It's just us. And we’re quickly realizing, we’re not the same us. I grew and evolved through the journey of raising kids, and so did he, but both of us are acutely aware that we lost a little of our identity, both individually and as a couple.
We are working to reset the relationship. To recommit and redefine what that means.
Wherever you are on this journey. Now is the time to start. Whether you have tinies or teenagers, now is the time to start prioritizing yourself and your relationship separate from your parenting.
And that’s why I’m honored to have Michelle Purta from the Marriage and Motherhood podcast join us to share her wisdom for designing your relationship with intention.
